REISE + CAMPING - the holiday fair in North Rhine-Westphalia
Exhibitor opinions 2012

Kumara Rajapaksha, Managing Director, Kumara Reisen GmbH

We have been represented at Reise + Camping for seven years and you can say quite clearly that Sri Lanka is becoming ever more popular as a travel destination. Precisely here at Messe Essen, we meet a lot of people who have already been in Sri Lanka - here in Essen, we simply notice the long-time effect most strongly. We were able to detect a great demand in the field of individual tourism. All in all, we are very satisfied with our appearance here at Reise + Camping.

Lothar F. Muschketat, Director, Eagles Flying (Ireland)

After the Wednesday began somewhat quietly, the frequency on the booth rose from day to day. For the weekend, we even had to plan with twice as many staff on the booth. The visitors are showing particular interest in our camping trips to Ireland. Overall, we were able to consolidate the people's interest in Ireland as a travel destination here.

José Manuel Fröhling, National Tourism Organisation of Serbia; Spokesperson of the Western Balkans Partner Region

Our appearance as the Western Balkans cooperative booth has been absolutely worthwhile: For us, it is an extremely positive surprise as far as the demand for the entire region is concerned. The majority of the visitors were very open to a Balkan holiday. Moreover, a lot of them have already made quite concrete plans for their trips. South-Eastern Europe is becoming ever more interesting precisely in the camping sector. The people are looking forward to a varied region with sincere and hospitable people. There was always a good mood and a lot happening on our booth. At the private sector level too, we were very successful here. The networking with other organisations and operators went outstandingly.

Karl Zahlmann, President of Deutscher Camping-Club

As the ideal sponsor of the fair, Deutscher Camping-Club considers that its commitment here in North Rhine-Westphalia has been confirmed in full. The past days have proven impressively how popular camping is as a leisure activity. We have felt very well here. And the innovations of the manufacturers of camping cars and caravans which were now introduced here in good time for the 2012 travel season have also shown clearly that camping gives rise to a fascination which attracts visitors in all age groups to the fair. Of course, that also applies to the large number of varied travel destinations which have presented themselves here. From the Western Balkans as a camping region via the varied German camping sites right up to the winners of the DCC European Prizes which we have awarded here once again. It was a successful event and, even today, we are already looking forward to the next Reise + Camping.

Anne-Grethe Christensen, Vice-President of EFCO&HPA, DK Camp

The demand on our booth rose from day to day. Precisely at the weekend, there was a lot happening and we are naturally very pleased about that. There is great interest in trips to Denmark, Norway and Finland - we are distributing brochures non-stop. In particular, the people are asking for North Cape trips. Furthermore, Copenhagen or the coastal regions are very popular. All in all, we are absolutely satisfied.

Gabriele Ingold, Tourism Marketing Officer, Verbund Oldenburger Münsterland ("Oldenburger Münsterland Association")

The first days of the fair were principally characterised by camping. The guests have asked not only about camping sites and motor caravan parking spaces in particular but also about the pit stop route. As was to be expected, the number of visitors increased towards the weekend when the bike fair opened in addition. The appropriate cycling tour for the new bike was then also sought straight away. Moreover, a lot of families come and inquire about holidays on farms or obtain information about exciting leisure activities for children.

Wolfgang Steinbauer, Sales Manager, Phoenix Reisemobile

We are very satisfied. We have done good deals here and have established intensive contacts. The public at Reise + Camping is really first-class. Many visitors already knew us and were able to strengthen their opinions here. And if a sales transaction also originates from these as the last step, you can really only be pleased. We very much like everything here and we were optimally looked after from all sides. Here, you simply feel just in good hands.

Daniela Leipelt, Managing Director of BVCD - Bundesverband der Campingwirtschaft in Deutschlan

We feel at home in the Galeria at the fair. Not only the very concrete demand but also a large number of direct bookings illustrated: Camping in Germany is absolutely trendy. The interest in camping holidays in the South of Germany is constant. The North is really in the ascendant: Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, East Friesland and the coastal regions in any case. Furthermore, Reise + Camping has increasingly developed into a specialist meeting place of the camping entrepreneuers in the last few years. This year, expert stimuli were also provided by the first International Camping Congress which will take place once more in the coming year. Moreover, Hall 4 with mobile homes and unusual accommodation was the meeting place of the camping entrepreneurs who offer such extravagant accommodation for rental on their sites.

Leo Ingenlath, President of Fachverband der Freizeit- und Campingunternehmer in NRW

Another major subject at the fair was the local recreation in North Rhine-Westphalia. Short holidays and long weekends in the surroundings without any long trips are more popular than ever.

Michael Haus, CEO, Dorema Vorzelte

We like Messe Essen. The numbers of visitors to our booth were enormous. We have the impression that the proportion of end customers has remained the same as in the preceding year. It remains to be seen what effect the fair appearance will have on the sales in our business. Overall, it is definitely great fun to be here. Reise + Camping is simply in the right place at the right time.

Katharina Fest, Assistant to the Management, Hamburger Stadtrundfahrt – Die roten Doppeldecker ("Hamburg City Tours - The Red Double-Deckers")

The first days were still extremely calm. We are tipping that the carnival was to blame for this. Towards the weekend, the frequency on the booth picked up extremely. This was our first appearance here since 2008 and many visitors were happy that we are involved once again. All in all, the course of the fair was absolutely positive for us.

Detlef Wesemann, Camping Krings

For us, it was positive that we have achieved decent sales figures. The visitors here to Reise + Camping are certainly willing to purchase and that is naturally pleasing. It remains to be seen whether we reach the figures from the previous year.
